I Saw How the Other Side Works. Now I’m Telling You.
Twelve years inside one of Europe’s largest insurers taught me exactly how policyholders get outmanoeuvred — and how they don’t have to be.
In 2014, I handled a case that changed how I looked at this industry. A family in Lyon had filed a claim after a house fire — a straightforward case, fully covered under their policy. The insurer’s response was a 47-page information request, written in the kind of language that takes a lawyer to parse. The family gave up. I’ve seen this go wrong too many times. Not through fraud, not through bad faith in the dramatic sense — just through complexity, deliberately deployed. That case stayed with me.
I spent twelve years as a senior claims consultant at NN Group, working cross-border cases across Germany, France, Spain, Belgium and beyond. I know how claims are assessed, how adjusters are briefed, what triggers a rejection and what makes an appeal succeed. In my experience across Europe, the gap isn’t between good and bad insurers — it’s between people who understand the rules and people who don’t.
In 2021, I left corporate. The reality is straightforward: the most useful thing I could do with what I know is put it somewhere accessible. EuroClaim is that place. Not a law firm, not a broker, not a comparison engine. An independent editorial voice — written by someone who sat on the other side of the desk long enough to understand both sides of it. To put it plainly: I help you understand the system well enough to use it properly.
